Showers

It wasn't so long ago that showers were either integrated to the bathtub or available in a simple metal cabin which was normally installed in the basement. Today, it's practically standard to find both a bathtub and separate shower in the same bathroom.

The contemporary shower comes in different shapes, in corners, in alcoves, one-piece, modular, with or without a top. If you are planning to change the shower, first choose between a one-piece or modular model. The one-piece is, as the name indicates, all in a single piece and is thus seamless and completely leak-proof. Because of its large dimensions, it can pose a problem when installed in an existing bathroom, unless you can take down a wall. This type of shower is more suitable for new homes. The modular shower, generally delivered in two or three pieces, is much easier to tr
ansport, and offers many installation possibilities.

Acrylic is a perfect material for showers, as well as baths. It has many advantages such as unlimited shapes, easy maintenance, high resistance to stains and dents, and exceptional durability. Next come fiberglass and ABS, in the medium quality range. Fiberglass can resist stains and dents and is much more durable than ABS.

Low-end plastic models, are to be avoided if you wants to have the shower for a few years. The price may be attractive, but they suffer from severe drawbacks in the areas of maintenance and water tightness.

Accessorizing the shower is becoming a popular trend in bathrooms. Some models come with an integrated seat while others are equipped with multiple jet sprays. These user-controlled jets propel water horizontally creating a relaxing massage, similar to the effect of a therapeutic bath. Two other features deserve serious consideration before you make a final selection: the degree of water tightness and the outside appearance. As a rule, showers equipped with sliding doors are more watertight than models with standard doors.
